Men's Basketball Team
This was the first men’s team to win a conference championship in any sport. The team had a record of 24 wins and 3 losses. This record still stands for the most wins by a men’s basketball team. This team was regular season champions, conference tournament champions, NCHSAA State District Champions, and advanced to the NCHSAA State Finals in Winston Salem. This was a remarkable feat for a team without a gym who alternated practice and home games at the old Happy Valley and Kings Creek schools. This was the second year of existence for Hibriten and this team brought pride to the new school after consolidation of Happy Valley, Kings Creek, and Oak Hill High Schools.
The team members were seniors Alan Land, Dale McGee, Rodney McRary. Juniors were Barry Curtis and Richard Ferguson. Sophomores were Terry Bradshaw, Jim Doll, Jack Hoke, Greg Jenkins, Robert Land, and Gene Patrick. Coach was Ron Beane.
The first four coaches inducted into the Hall of Fame: Ron Beane, Wilford Beane, Ted Luckado, and Janet Mason.
