Underclassmen need to pay for or return their Spring Pictures as soon as possible.

A West Caldwell art student, Francisco Diega has made it to the finals in Artsonia Idol.  If you get a moment, please go online to vote for him at www.artsonia.com.  It is really exciting that a student in our system has made it this far in the competition.

 

Art students going to New York City in June will have a brief 10-15 minute meeting tomorrow after school.  It is important that everyone attend.

 

Get your game on at Bo’s Fun Center.  April 9 is Hibriten Night at Bo’s from 5:00 to 9:00.  Purchase an admission ticket for $10 and all activities are FREE and UNLIMITED – Laser Tag, Bowling, Spin Zone, Mini Golf, Bounce House & Arcade!  You do not have to be a Hibriten student to participate. Tickets will be on sale during lunch or you may see Mrs. LaFemina in B1.  Space is limited so buy yours today!

 

Reminder to all AP students:  A partial or full payment for AP tests is due tomorrow in order to reserve a seat for testing. Please see Mrs. Bailey in counseling services for any concerns regarding this announcement.

 

The Hibriten H.S. Acting Company and Honors theatre will be presenting their Spring 2010 mainstage production this weekend.  THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO is written by Alfred Uhry, who also wrote the very popular, DRIVING MISS DAISY.  THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO is a comedy and stars a cast filled entirely with juniors and seniors.  Please come out and support the theatre department this weekend.  Shows tonight, tomorrow, Saturday and Monday night begin at 7:00, while the Sunday matinee will begin at 2:00 pm.  Tickets are $5.

 

There will be a brief prom meeting tomorrow at 3:00 in Rm. C20.

 

Art students from first semester who have pottery or sculpture to enter in the Caldwell Arts Council Student Competition need to get that work to Ms. Martine by tomorrow. The high school opening reception will be next Wednesday, March 17, from 3:00-6:00.

 

A Latino College Night presentation will take place at the Caldwell County Public Library in Lenoir tonight at 6:30 in Meeting Room #6.  All of the information will be presented in Spanish.  All Spanish-speaking students and their parents are invited to come out and learn more about college admissions, college programs, and scholarships.  Please see Mrs. Robinson or Ms. Gough for more details.

 

Camp Med 2010 sponsored by Caldwell Memorial Hospital and Caldwell County Schools Career and Technical Education is scheduled for June 21st - 25th.  Camp Med is designed for students who may be interested in a healthcare career and provides in-depth education and an opportunity to experience a hands-on hospital environment. 

 

Summer internships are also available for interested students. Rising 10th, 11th and 12th grade students are eligible.  The application deadline is Thursday, April 1st. You may see your Career Development Coordinator, Crystal Swanson, in A14, or contact Carol Short, Career Development / Camp Med Coordinator at cshort@caa.k12.nc.us or 292-7029 for more information and an application.

 

Out of Our Minds, Hibriten’s literary magazine, is now accepting artwork and literary submissions for its Spring 2010 edition.  Submission guidelines are posted throughout the school and works may be dropped off in A11 or the Media Center. Deadline is March 25 at 3:00 pm. See Mrs. Payne in A11 if you have questions. 

 

Career and Technical Education will be offering a Criminal Justice Summer Internship Program.  The program is designed to educate and prepare high school students for careers associated with the criminal justice system.  Activities include 135 contact hours of presentations, tours, observations, hands-on experience, and field work experiences.  The program period extends from June 14 through August 2, 2010. Student must be a rising junior or senior in good standing with respect to attendance, tardies, discipline, and citizenship, have an overall 2.5 grade point average, and receive great recommendations from teachers.  Applications are located in Crystal Swanson's Office A14.  Completed applications are due to Ms. Swanson in A14 by April 21, 2010.   Please contact Elizabeth Crump, Criminal Justice Internship Coordinator with questions at 758-0516 or 828-292-6504.

The JV Baseball team tied Hickory yesterday 6-6. Pitching for the Panthers were James Coffey, Jon Haney, and Jacob Clark. Leading hitters were Jacob Clark, James Coffey, Ben Cogsdale, Gavin Keller, Cory Laws, Cody Saunders, and Adam Stevens, each with a hit.

 

The Varsity Baseball team lost to Hickory yesterday 10-0.

Congratulations to the Varsity Softball team for their 5-3 win over East Burke.  Kristen Oakes got the win striking out 8 and also going 2 for 4 with a homerun.  Krista Sumpter led the team with 3 hits and Chelsea Walker added 2 hits.

Please dismiss JV and Varsity Softball players at 2:05 for their game at North Iredell.  The bus will leave at 2:20.

Athletics

Congratulations to the Hibriten Men’s Basketball team on their state playoff run.  Hibriten finished runner-up in the 3A western regional tournament in Greensboro on Saturday.  Darius Lipford and Josh Dula were selected to the All-Tournament team. Thanks to all the coaches, faculty, administration, and students that came down to support the team. 

 

Congratulations to the Varsity Softball team for their 15-0 victory over West Caldwell.  Please dismiss the Varsity Softball team at 2:15 today for their game at East Burke.  The bus will leave at 2:25.

 

Congratulations to the JV Baseball team on defeating Freedom 17 - 2 on Friday. The winning pitcher was Jacob Clark. Leading hitters for the Panthers were Jacob Clark, 3 for 5 with 3 doubles, Cody Saunders with 2 hits, and James Coffey, Gavin Keller, Ben Cogsdale, Jon Haney, Cori Laws, and Matt Livingston each with 1 hit.

 

The Panther Baseball team defeated Freedom Friday night.  Sean McGarvey picked up the win and Jonathon Greene recorded the save.  Jonathan Greene had 4 hits to lead the Panthers at the plate.  With the win the Panthers improve to

2-0 on the season.

 

Please dismiss the Golf team at 2:00 today.
